In Memoriam

Marvin B. Howard
Marvin B. Howard, 85, of Davenport Center, passed away Saturday, Feb.12, 2011, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Marvin was born April 8, 1925, in Lexington. His parents were Levi H. and Elsie (Plankerhorn) Howard. Marvin married Florence Haines on April 21, 1946, at the Westkill Baptist Church. She died July 17, 2007.

Marvin was a dairy farmer in Little Westkill. He was a painter, a carpenter, and a logger. He worked as a meat cutter for 32 years at Greendell Meat Packaging Co. in Prattsville. He also worked at Provini Veal Co. in Bloomville. He later worked for the Greene County Highway Department. Marvin was a member of the Packing House Workers Union Local 5, New York.

Marvin played Town Team Baseball for a Lexington team. He also bowled in Prattsville.  He was a trustee at the Lexington Methodist Church, and a 75 year member. He was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. He was also a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Windham Mt. Masonic Lodge No. 592, the Lexington Fire Department for 55 years, the Senior Citizens Club of Davenport, and he volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program.

Survivors are two daughters, Marilyn and her husband, John M. Got, and Barbara Howard and her son, Joseph; one son, Mark and his wife, Susan Howard; four grandchildren, Shanna Got, Christopher and his wife, Carin Got, Justin and his wife, Amy Howard, and Lucas Howard; seven great-grandsons, Brighton, Lachlan and Thayer Got, Josiah, Simeon, Judah and Elijah Howard; and one special niece, Renee Duchene. He was predeceased by two brothers, Orlin and Lyle Howard; and one sister, Rita Hull.

Funeral services were held Feb. 15, 2011, at the United Methodist Church, Lexington, with the Rev. Justin Howard and the Rev. Elliott Oakes, officiating. Marvin was buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville. Calling hours were held Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Contributions in memory of Marvin B. Howard may be made to the Robinson Terrace, Stamford, or to a charity of one's choice.

(Marvin was a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of the Haines Family Association for many years, as was his late wife Florence.)  



Marie B. Haines
Haines, Marie Byrne of Safety Harbor, FL, and Hunter, NY, died 28 May 2011 at the age of 98 years. Born November 27, 1912, in Brooklyn, NY. She had two sisters and one brother: John Byrne, deceased; Sister Alice Byrne Loretto, SJC, deceased; and survived by her sister Joan Byrne Gibilaro.  Marie is survived by 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Received her teaching degree in 1934, first teaching in the New York City School System, then St. Athanasius Catholic School before moving to Tannersville and teaching at the Hunter-Tannersville Central School, first the sixth grade in Hunter, then math in Tannersville.  Marie was awarded a National Science Grant for Math. She was also a seamstress, musician, square dance caller, choir master, possessing an incredible memory and, if asked, could sing every verse of any Irish ditty requested.

Marie’s oldest son Robert Byrne Garilli is deceased but she is survived by her daughter Dawn Wicks, who is married to Professor Frank Wicks; daughter Desiree Marciani, married to Rev. Mr. Thomas Marciani; son Christopher Garill, stepson  Richard Haines, married to Ida Haines, and stepdaughter Nancy McGowan, married to Joseph McGowan. Stepson Thomas Haines is deceased.

Grandchildren: Robyn Garilli, Donna Garilli, Frank E. Wicks, Linda A. Wicks,  Christopher P. Garrill, Gail Montgomery, SSgt. John M. Garill, Janet Allen, Mark  Garill, Rebecca May Lee,  Shawna Grace Stadtherr,  Mary Ann Haines, Donna Haines Williams, Kathleen Haines Cumber,  Michael Haines,  Kelly McGowan Kotwicki, Katrina McGowan,  Karissa McGowan Driscoll, and Joseph McGowan.

Great grandchildren: Samantha Garilli,  Kenneth Montgomery, Christie Montgomery,  Nicholas Montgomery, Henry Allen, Catherine Allen, Makayla  Garill, Clare Garill, Sutton B. Stadtherr, Talia M. Lee, Brian  DeCelle, Andrew  DeCelle,  Adam DeCelle,  Theresa DeCelle, Elizabeth DeCelle, John DeCelle,  Stephen DeCelle, Nicholas Williams, Catrina Williams, Jonathon Cumber, Mechelle Haines, Charlene Haines, Sheila Haines, Justin Kotwicki, Jesse Kotwicki, Jacob Kotwicki, Juliana Kotwicki, Joshua Kotwicki, Christopher Palmer,  Mark McGowan, Brendan McGowan, Alexandra Driscoll,  Ryan Driscoll, Madeline Driscoll, and Neila McGowan.

Great-great grandchild: Violet Surat.

Funeral mass was held Saturday July 23, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Haines Falls, NY.

Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
